The Dougherty Legend! Industrial arts teacher Bob Dougherty joined Boston Whaler in 1960 for what would become a 30-year journey of outstanding fiberglass boat building and design. Bob Dougherty started out as Chief Engineer then became Chief Designer & Senior Vice President of Engineering, designing almost every boat Boston Whaler built, ranging from 9 to 31 ft. Stephen Dougherty joined his father's team at Boston Whaler in 1984 and contributed to the success of the company until 1990, when father and son moved on following the change of ownership to Reebok. The Doughertys then began building the tooling for an 18-ft variable deadrise V-hull offshore boat, which would eventually become the first model of the Edgewater Powerboats line. Together, Bob and Stephen owned and operated Edgewater Powerboats until 1994, leaving in 1995 to pursue other interest. |
