How to Effectively Read & Use a Paper Parts List
Reading a Mercury paper parts list is fairly straightforward,
however, the following hints may help assure that you easily obtain the correct
information from it. Obtaining any needed parts is always going to be
considerably easier if you have the correct part number.
- Locate the model serial number listing at the beginning of the parts list.
Be sure that your model is listed and its serial number falls within the range
offered. If not, the part number information in the list may not be
correct for your model/year engine.
- Refer to the index to locate the desired engine assembly.
- Locate the desired exploded view. Each pictured part is labeled with a
reference number. Locate the corresponding reference number on the
facing page to find the part description and part number.
- It is important to note the far right column(s), after the part
descriptions. This column shows part usage for each model covered in a
particular parts list. A number in that column tells how many (if any)
of a particular part are used on a particular model.
- It is also helpful to know that some part numbers refer to assemblies,
which may include other part numbers in them. Any parts which would
typically be included with an assembly will appear indented under that
assembly name.
- Each parts list also typically contains a listing of miscellaneous parts
and accessories, often at the beginning or else at the end of the parts list.
